Clinical environments are cleaned with things that destroy ordinary surfaces. A non-porous body that needs no sealing is not a marketing line here — it is the reason the surface is specified at all. Healthcare specifications are usually approved by infection control before they are approved by the design team, and that is the correct order. The properties that get asked about are porosity, the behaviour of the surface under repeated disinfection, and whether the finish reflects the ceiling — in a treatment room the ceiling is a grid of luminaires, so a matt surface is a clinical requirement rather than a preference. Joints and their grout are part of the specification and should be issued with it.
What each sector actually asks for
The technical questions change more between sectors than they do between finishes. A hotel asks about cleaning cycles, a clinic asks about disinfectants, and an office asks about the joint pattern.
