Overview

What this finish is for

M09 is a near-black flat colour with a super-matt, fingerprint-resistant surface. It is the finish to specify when a project wants black in a kitchen and has been warned about polished black.

The anti-fingerprint property is a function of surface micro-texture, not a coating, so it does not wear off at the front edge of an island where hands actually go. It reduces marking; it does not eliminate it. Anything sold as a black surface that never marks is being oversold.

Through-body colour matters more here than on any other finish in the range: a cut edge, a drilled tap hole and a mitred corner all show the same black as the face.

A 3200 × 1600 slab is not a big tile

Two people and a frame move it; a suction rail does the rest. The reason the format matters is not the size of the slab, it is the number of joints that disappear from the drawing.

A three-metre island in 3200 comes out of one slab, with the waterfall ends book-matched from the same piece. In 1200 × 600 it is nine pieces and eight joints, and every one of those joints is a decision somebody has to make on site, at seven in the morning, with the client arriving at nine.
